Fort Hood Shooting; 12 Dead, 31 Injured

At least twelve people are dead and 31 wounded in a shooting at Fort Hood in Texas. It was unknown whether victims are soldiers or civilians. Two suspects were captured and four swat officers were wounded a policeman was among those shot. The shooter had a high-powered rifle and was reportedly aiming to kill. The shootings appeared to have occurred in a complex near a theater where a graduation was in service. Obama has been briefed about reports of a shooting. Army spokesman Lt. Col. Nathan Banks says the first shooting began at about 1:30 p.m. at a personnel and medical processing office. The second incident took place at a theater on the sprawling base.

June 5, 2009, Barack Obama nominated Maj. Gen. Robert W. Cone for promotion to lieutenant general and assignment as commander of III Corps and Fort Hood. Cone commanded the Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan. September 22, 2009, Cone took over for Lt. Gen. Rick Lynch. More than 18,500 of Fort Hood’s troops are deployed to Iraq and more than 1,000 are in Afghanistan.
