Obama Supreme Court Pick

97The Obama team has been preparing for a Supreme Court nomination for months. This was one of the main issues of the election, Supreme Court Judges. The president set up a judicial working group just after his election in November, and charged it with drawing up a list of candidates. Justice David H. Souter announced that he would step down at the end of the court’s term in late June. Obama promised to name a Supreme Court justice who combines “empathy and understanding” with an impeccable legal background.

Obama made a surprise appearance in the White House press briefing room,
saying that in considering a successor for Souter, he was looking for a “sharp and independent mind” and a sense of compassion. “I will seek someone who understands that justice isn’t about some abstract legal theory or footnote in a casebook,” he said. “It’s also about how our laws affect the daily realities of people’s lives  whether they can make a living and care for their families, whether they feel safe in their homes and welcome in their own nation.” Who does Obama think he’s fooling, this is the perfect time for him to put a liberal Justice on the bench, some suggested a woman or minority, especially a Latino. Let me remind you, Obama is about ‘SHOW’.

Some of the names that have been circulating are Solicitor General Elena Kagan, U.S. Appeals Court Judges Sonia Sotomayor, Kim McLane Wardlaw, Sandra Lea Lynch and Diane Pamela Wood, and Leah Ward Sears, chief justice of the Georgia Supreme Court, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, Harvard Law professor Cass Sunstein and U.S. District Judge Ruben Castillo of Chicago. Obama has stated that the constitution is ‘Deeply Flawed’.
