The Other 95%

Who are The Other 95%?
They claim to be:

Hard-working Americans who are tired of seeing the wealthy and powerful few rig a tax system so full of loopholes for the “privileged class” that we’re left to pick up the tab. We are angry about this.

Middle class Americans who for decades have dutifuly paid their taxes while watching the biggest corporations and very wealthiest Americans pay a smaller and smaller share (50% less since 1960).

Citizens tired of not being heard amidst the media’s fascination with the antics and misinformation of the teaparty fringe 5% which distracts all of us from solving very real problems facing America.

Citizens tired of our rigged tax system that borrows trillions from China and our children’s future in order to give handouts to the wealthiest 2.2%.
We are…

Police, Fire and Rescue officers who understand that tax revenues are the lifeblood of our ability to serve our communities in the safest , most efficient way possible. Taxes pay for our equipment, our tools, our modest incomes, insurance and retirement packages that support our families and help us strengthen our neighborhoods.

Military personnel and veterans, who serve and protect our country with patriotic passion. We work hard to protect our borders, keep our shipping lanes open and safe, and fight for the Red, White and Blue in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere with pride and honor.

Teachers, who know that the success, safety and very foundation of our Republic depends on the education of our future. We rely on taxes to provide us and our young people with the materials and support they need to take the reins of our great country.

Doctors and Nurses, Technicians and other Healthcare providers who dedicate our heart and soul every day to improving the lives of our patients. We know that our healthcare system depends on the flow of information, research, infrastructure and taxpayer dollars to deliver the best practices, procedures to all Americans.

Small Business Owners who continue to be the lifeblood of employment, innovation, community and GDP growth. We realize that taxes supports the infrastructure necessary for us to build new businesses, reach new customers, and achieve the American Dream.

CEOs and other Business Leaders who know that there is no such thing as the “self-made man.” We recognize and respect the fundamental truth that our success is build upon the shoulders of a country that provides the superior education system so that we have access to the best and brightest employees.

We know we cannot build a single product without the massive public infrastructure such as roads or public transit our workers need to get to work, or the safe, consistent electric, Internet and other networks that allows us to thrive. We pay homage to our military men and women who protect shipping lanes and make America the best place on earth to build and grow a business. We know that taxes are an essential part of this and must pay our fair share to ensure it continues.

Moms and Dads and families who expect clean drinking water and inspected foods so that our kids can eat and drink without fear. We know that being part of a community – be it our hometown or our country – depends on all of us contributing to keep our unique, amazing quality of American life intact.

Disenfranchised Tea Partiers outraged about Wall Street bailouts and the unfairness of a tax system that gives massive tax breaks to global corporations and the very rich.
We are all of us…

No matter what creed, color, religion or trade, we know that we’re all in this together and that everyone — from the single mom just scraping to get by to the richest man on the hill — share a common interest in keeping America the best country on Earth.

We are often too busy to be heard, but we are everywhere. And we are hopeful.

Sarah Palin’s Notes Written On Her Hand

Sarah Palin drew many standing ovations from a friendly crowd of 600 members gathered at the Gaylord resort in Nashville billed as the first national Tea Party Convention. She called the Tea Party movement a “ground-up call to action that is forcing both parties to change the way they’re doing business.” The buzz about the speech is the fact that Sarah wrote some notes in the palm of her hand and that has made MSM and Liberals go crazy.

Written on her left hand. The words “Energy”, “Tax” and “Lift American Spirits” are clearly visible. There’s also what appears to read as “Budget cuts” with the word Budget crossed out. Obama rely on teleprompters to guide him through speeches. When Obama becomes separated from his teleprompters he’s lost in words, the start his “uh’s/hum’s” and completely lose focus of the subject. I have used, napkins, pieces of torn paper, and my palm as well for speeches.

This is really no big deal; the notes weren’t for her speech, for which she used prepared remarks. They were for the Q&A session that followed, during which she glanced at the hand in question. MSM has found another item to criticize Palin about because of her growing popularity. Palin sought to hold Obama accountable as she took on a number of issues, including national security, the economy. Palin’s speech gave a foretaste of her campaign for the presidency. The Democratic agenda is “running out of time,” Palin said, claiming that the conservative tea party movement is part of a brewing “revolution” that constitutes the “future of politics.”

State Of The Union Overview

The speech/campaign was under 90 minutes.  Nobody yelled “you lie.” Republicans stood and clapped at several points. Obama took responsibility for failing to make the case for health care reform.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton did not attend Obama’s State of the Union/campaign, claiming she had to attend a conference in London. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan was designated by the White House to ride out the speech in an undisclosed location as a precaution against the possibility of a catastrophe wiping out the rest of the government leadership. Can you believe this? The truth is, Clinton didn’t want to attend another boring speech that Obama has been given for a whole year. Clinton has already stated that she will be a One Term Secretary of State, not by choice. The media has tried to make the conference on Yemen and Afghanistan more important then the State of the Union. What are aides for? They are the one’s you send to mediocre events, right? Well Shaun Donovan did her job!

From the speech: ” I have never been more hopeful about America’s future than I am tonight. Despite our hardships, our union is strong. We do not give up. We do not quit. We do not allow fear or division to break our spirit.”

“If there’s one thing that has unified Democrats and Republicans and everybody in between it’s that we all hated the bank bailout. I hated it. I hated it. I hated it. You hated it. It was about as popular as a root canal.”

“For every success story, there are other stories, of men and women who wake up with the anguish of not knowing where their next paycheck will come from, who send out resumes week after week and hear nothing in response. That is why jobs must be our number-one focus in 2010, and that’s why I’m calling for a new jobs bill tonight.”

” I’m proposing that we take $30 billion of the money Wall Street banks have repaid and use it to help community banks give small businesses the credit they need to stay afloat. I’m also proposing a new small-business tax credit, one that will go to over 1 million small businesses who hire new workers or raise wages. While we’re at it, let’s also eliminate all capital gains taxes on small-business investment and provide a tax incentive for all large businesses and all small businesses to invest in new plants and equipment.”

Alito saying, “Not True”

“I know that there are those who disagree with the overwhelming scientific evidence on climate change. But here’s the thing. Even if you doubt the evidence, providing incentives for energy efficiency and clean energy are the right thing to do for our future, because the nation that leads the clean-energy economy will be the nation that leads the global economy, and America must be that nation.”

“We will double our exports over the next five years, an increase that will support 2 million jobs in America.”

” I didn’t choose to tackle this issue to get some legislative victory under my belt. And by now, it should be fairly obvious that I didn’t take on health care because it was good politics.”

“Starting in 2011, we are prepared to freeze government spending for three years. Spending related to our national security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security will not be affected, but all other discretionary government programs will.”

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano fell asleep.
“With all due deference to separation of powers, last week, the Supreme Court reversed a century of law that I believe will open the floodgates for special interests, including foreign corporations, to spend without limit in our elections. I don’t think American elections should be bankrolled by America’s most powerful interests or, worse, by foreign entities. They should be decided by the American people. And I urge Democrats and Republicans to pass a bill that helps correct some of these problems.”

“What frustrates the American people is a Washington where every day is Election Day. We can’t wage a perpetual campaign where the only goal is to see who can get the most embarrassing headlines about the other side, a belief that if you lose, I win. Neither party should delay or obstruct every single bill just because they can.”

“If the Republican leadership is going to insist that 60 votes in the Senate are required to do any business at all in this town, a supermajority, then the responsibility to govern is now yours, as well. Just saying no to everything may be good short-term politics, but it’s not leadership.”

“ We will support — we will support the Iraqi government — we will support the Iraqi government as they hold elections, and we will continue to partner with the Iraqi people to promote regional peace and prosperity. But make no mistake: This war is ending, and all of our troops are coming home.”

” This year, I will work with Congress and our military to finally repeal the law that denies gay Americans the right to serve the country they love because of who they are. It’s the right thing to do.”
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid also seemed a little sleepy, yawning throughout the speech/campaign.

” I campaigned on the promise of change, change we can believe in, the slogan went. And right now, I know there are many Americans who aren’t sure if they still believe we can change, or that I can deliver it. But remember this: I never suggested that change would be easy or that I could do it alone. Democracy in a nation of 300 million people can be noisy and messy and complicated. And when you try to do big things and make big changes, it stirs passions and controversy. That’s just how it is.”

” The spirit that has sustained this nation for more than two centuries lives on in you, its people. We have finished a difficult year. We have come through a difficult decade. But a new year has come. A new decade stretches before us. We don’t quit. I don’t quit. Let’s seize this moment, to start anew, to carry the dream forward, and to strengthen our union once more.”

Obama failed to offer a clear direction forward for health care reform, seemingly implying that it’s anything goes.  The Speech was Very Boring. Obama added nothing new to what he has been saying for the past year.

Obama Call For Spending Freezes

Obama will seek a three-year freeze on domestic spending in his 2011 budget that would save $250 billion by 2020. Obama will outline the spending freeze in his State of the Union address on Wednesday. Details will be presented February 1. outlook.

Transcript Of First McCain/Obama Debate

From the transcript: LEHRER: What I’m trying to get at this is this. Excuse me if I may, senator. Trying to get at that you all — one of you is going to be the president of the United States come January. At the — in the middle of a huge financial crisis that is yet to be resolved. And what I’m trying to get at is how this is going to affect you not in very specific — small ways but in major ways and the approach to take as to the presidency.

MCCAIN: How about a spending freeze on everything but defense, veteran affairs and entitlement programs.

LEHRER: Spending freeze?

MCCAIN: I think we ought to seriously consider with the exceptions the caring of veterans national defense and several other vital issues.

LEHRER: Would you go for that?

OBAMA: The problem with a spending freeze is you’re using a hatchet where you need a scalpel. There are some programs that are very important that are under funded. I went to increase early childhood education and the notion that we should freeze that when there may be, for example, this Medicare subsidy doesn’t make sense.

Let me tell you another place to look for some savings. We are currently spending $10 billion a month in Iraq when they have a $79 billion surplus. It seems to me that if we’re going to be strong at home as well as strong abroad, that we have to look at bringing that war to a close.

MCCAIN: Look, we are sending $700 billion a year overseas to countries that don’t like us very much. Some of that money ends up in the hands of terrorist organizations. We have to have wind, tide, solar, natural gas, flex fuel cars and all that but we also have to have offshore drilling and we also have to have nuclear power.

Senator Obama opposes both storing and reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel. You can’t get there from here and the fact is that we can create 700,000 jobs by building constructing 45 new nuclear power plants by the year 2030. Nuclear power is not only important as far as eliminating our dependence on foreign oil but it’s also responsibility as far as climate change is concerned and the issue I have been involved in for many, many years and I’m proud of the work of the work that I’ve done there along with President Clinton.

LEHRER: Before we go to another lead question. Let me figure out a way to ask the same question in a slightly different way here. Are you — are you willing to acknowledge both of you that this financial crisis is going to affect the way you rule the country as president of the United States beyond the kinds of things that you have already — I mean, is it a major move? Is it going to have a major affect?

OBAMA: There’s no doubt it will affect our budgets. There is no doubt about it. Not only — Even if we get all $700 billion back, let’s assume the markets recover, we’ holding assets long enough that eventually taxpayers get it back and that happened during the Great Depression when Roosevelt purchased a whole bunch of homes, over time, home values went back up and in fact government made a profit. If we’re lucky and do it right, that could potentially happen but in the short term there’s an outlay and we may not see that money for a while.

And because of the economy’s slowing down, I think we can also expect less tax revenue so there’s no doubt that as president I’m go doing have to make some tough decision.

The only point I want to make is this, that in order to make the tough decisions we have to know what our values are and who we’re fighting for and our priorities and if we are spending $300 billion on tax cuts for people who don’t need them and weren’t even asking for them, and we are leaving out health care which is crushing on people all across the country, then I think we have made a bad decision and I want to make sure we’re not shortchanging our long term priorities.

MCCAIN: Well, I want to make sure we’re not handing the health care system over to the federal government which is basically what would ultimately happen with Senator Obama’s health care plan. I want the families to make decisions between themselves and their doctors. Not the federal government. Look. We have to obviously cut spending. I have fought to cut spending. Senator Obama has $800 billion in new spending programs. I would suggest he start by canceling some of those new spending program that he has.

We can’t I think adjust spending around to take care of the very much needed programs, including taking care of our veterans but I also want to say again a healthy economy with low taxes would not raising anyone’s taxes is probably the best recipe for eventually having our economy recover.

And spending restraint has got to be a vital part of that. And the reason, one of the major reasons why we’re in the difficulties we are in today is because spending got out of control. We owe China $500 billion. And spending, I know, can be brought under control because I have fought against excessive spending my entire career. And I got plans to reduce and eliminate unnecessary and wasteful spending and if there’s anybody here who thinks there aren’t agencies of government where spending can be cut and their budgets slashed they have not spent a lot of time in Washington.

OBAMA: I just want to make this point, Jim. John, it’s been your president who you said you agreed with 90 percent of the time who presided over this increase in spending. This orgy of spending and enormous deficits you voted for almost all of his budgets. So to stand here and after eight years and say that you’re going to lead on controlling spending and, you know, balancing our tax cuts so that they help middle class families when over the last eight years that hasn’t happened I think just is, you know, kind of hard to swallow.

Obama’s spending freeze proposal would:

* Freeze discretionary spending not associated with national security.

* Nearly double the value of the child- and dependent-care tax credit for middle-class families earning less than $85,000 a year. All households earning under $115,000 will see a credit increase.

* Add $1.6 billion to child-care funding assistance, the largest one-year increase in 20 years, to help an additional 235,000 children.

* Cap a student’s federal loan payments to 10% of income above a set living allowance. The White House says this would lower payments for hundreds of thousands of graduates.

* Set up a system of workplace IRAs by requiring employers to offer direct-deposit IRAs to their workers.

* Expand tax credits to match retirement savings.

* Enact safeguards to protect retirement savings.

* Increase support for families caring for elderly relatives, and for seniors who want to stay in their homes.

Sarah “What did you do to your hair?”

Oprah Winfrey was in the middle of her introduction when she tried to embarrass Palin by blurted out, “What did you do to your hair?” before finishing her introduction. Palin wearing tightly coiled curls, was too witted for the Talk Show Queen and returned fire with this response, “Do you like it?, I tried to look like you.” Oprah, being smacked in the face with her own insult could only say, “Yes, I’m not used to you having that many curls, It’s kind of cute, but I was just surprised to see you pop up there with the curls. Great. What’s the weather like in Wasilla today?”
