President Barack Obama says the outbreak of swine flu is cause for concern, no alarm. That same day, April 27, (World Health Organization) WHO raised Pandemic Alert Level.
By June 25, 2009 Over 1 million Americans have had swine flu, the CDC estimates. Half those cases have been in New York City. The vast majority of cases have been mild. While over one in 10 reported cases have sent patients to the hospital. A significant minority of cases has been severe. As with seasonal flu, the highest rates of severe cases occur in the very young, children under age 4 years, and adults over age 65.
The World Health Organization says at least 625 people have been reported dead from swine flu in the September 4th week. 20 percent more than the 2,837 known deaths since the virus first emerged in Mexico and the United States earlier this year. WHO said that laboratory confirmed cases of the disease have now reached 254,206. The virus could eventually infect 2 billion people, or a third of the world’s population, according to WHO estimates.
Drug makers are racing to develop vaccines. It’s September 18th, the swine flu vaccine is expected to be available nationwide by mid October. First to receive the vaccine will be those at highest risk for complications from the H1N1 flu virus: pregnant women; caregivers of infants under 6 months; health-care workers; children; adults under 24 and adults 25 to 64 who have underlying medical conditions such as asthma and diabetes. Everyone else will have to wait. About 20 million doses of swine flu vaccine will be distributed nationwide each week after the initial rollout. The federal government is covering the cost of the vaccine and supplies, but some providers, such as privately owned clinics and hospitals, might charge a fee to administer the shot.
You see how Obama has handled this, this was addressed in April. Obama supporters followed his advice, don’t worry, it’s no big deal. More than the 2,837 known deaths, 254,206 confirmed cases. No vaccine expected till mid October. The feds have already sent $350 million to state and local governments, $90 million to assist hospitals and emergency rooms. Obama wants to spend an additional $2.7 billion to buy swine flu vaccines, that we don’t even know if they would work.
This is a prime example of how Obama Health Care will operate.
