President Obama signed an executive order allowing the federal government to fund the full array of embryonic stem cell research on March 9, 2009 this was Monday. “Medical miracles do not happen simply by accident. They result from painstaking and costly research from years of lonely trial and error, much of which never bears fruit, and from a government willing to support that work,” Mr. Obama said as he signed an executive order. On Wednesday, two days after, President Barack Obama signed a law that explicitly bans federal funding of any “research in which a human embryo or embryos are destroyed, discarded, or knowingly subjected to risk of injury or death. The provision was buried in the 465-page omnibus appropriations bill that Obama signed, known as the Dickey-Wicker amendment, it has been included in the annual appropriations bill for the Department of Health and Human Services every fiscal year since 1996.

In Lansing, Mich., outside the state Capitol, another 4,000 people gathered, in Salt Lake City despite the rain and snow more than 1,000 protesters gathered, U.S. Secret Service officers cleared Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest and Lafayette Park north of the White House with about 2,000 protesters on the sidewalks. North Korea ordered U.N. inspectors to leave on Tuesday after saying it would quit international nuclear disarmament talks and restart a plant that makes bomb-grade plutonium. North Korea said it saw talks on ending its nuclear weapons program as “useless”. Meanwhile back in D.C., Obama plays with his puppy, ‘Bo’.
North Korea could have its plant that separates plutonium from spent fuel rods up running again in as little as three months. North Korea has enough plutonium for six to eight atomic bombs. In a statement the U.N. action and separate six-country nuclear talks were an infringement of its sovereignty and it “will never participate in the talks any longer nor … be bound to any agreement.” The International Atomic Energy Agency, said North Korea had ordered U.N. inspectors to leave the country. Who’s in charge here, Obama? No he’s playing with “Bo”, oh it’s Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, I’m waiting for her laughing video of this.
Jo Becker, a Washington, DC, advocate for Human Rights Watch, said if the pirate suspect is in fact 16 or 17, “he would certainly be entitled to protections under international law that allow for lower culpability of juveniles involved in crimes”. Ms Becker said international law recognized that people under 18 were “less developed, less mature, and more easily manipulated by adults”.
